The latest colon cancer treatments, right here in your community

Colon cancer treatment is a team effort. You will likely have more than one treatment from more than one type of doctor. Your team may include colorectal surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists and more.

Depending on the type of cancer you have, your treatment may include:

  • Endoscopic removal of colon cancer tumors without surgery
  • Minimally invasive surgery to remove colon cancer and part of the colon
  • Chemotherapy that uses medicine to kill cancer cells anywhere in the body
  • Immunotherapy that uses your body’s immune system to kill cancer cells
  • Radiation therapy for burning away cancer cells
  • Clinical trials that offer the latest medicines and other treatments

Before surgery, you may get some of these treatments, such as chemotherapy, to shrink colon cancer cells. Called neoadjuvant therapy, this approach to treatment makes it easier for your surgeon to remove colon cancer while leaving as much healthy colon as possible.

Colon Cancer Clinical Trials

Roswell Park clinical trials allow you to access the latest treatments, often years before they are available in other areas of the country. As part of a clinical trial, you have new hope for a cure and can help improve treatment for colon cancer patients in the future.

Through our partnership with Roswell Park, you have access to colon cancer clinical trials such as:

  • Novel biologic targeted therapies that block signals between cancer cells to prevent cancer growth
  • New chemotherapy and immunotherapy combinations that may work more effectively than current combinations
  • New medicines that are approved for other types of cancer but may treat colon cancer too

Your care team of Ellis Medicine and Roswell Park experts can help you determine if a clinical trial may be right for you.
